Oregon's 5th Congressional district runs from the Pacific Ocean on the west to the Cascade Range on the East and from Portland’s southern suburbs on the north to Corvallis in the south.

It includes all of Lincoln, Marion, Polk, and Tillamook counties most of Clackamas County and portions of Benton and Multnomah counties.  The district encompasses 5,362 square miles and is 80.34% urban and 19.66% rural as defined by the US Census Bureau.

As of the 2000 census the district was home to 684,280 people and the median income was $44,409.

The district is 24.5% blue collar and 60.6% white collar.
