As the cost of healthcare has increased with the advent of more sophisticated medical procedures and a growing aging population, Scott believes in promoting programs that encourage the prevention of disease and more healthy life styles. Scott supports healthcare reform that moves us from doctor-centered acute care, to more effective patient-centered preventative care. Scott also supports programs that enable cooperative small business efforts to negotiate with insurers for lower insurance premiums, saving money while protecting working families and individuals.

Jobs & the Economy
Scott's number one priority is keeping Oregon's economy growing. He understands that job growth and investment stimulates our economy, and gives the state the revenue it needs to deliver important services. Scott will continue to support policies that will help make Oregon a great place to do business. Scott understands that good quality of life starts with a good job.

Public Safety
Scott believes that the most important job of government – at every level – is public safety. Scott will continue his work in the legislature to help make our homes and neighborhoods safer. The serious methamphetamine problem in our state must be eradicated and offenders must be held accountable for their actions while compassion is directed to the victims – especially children. Scott is proud to have co-sponsored Oregon's landmark anti-meth legislation in 2005. But even with these accomplishments, Scott knows that we still have far to go in our battle against illegal drugs.

Schools & Colleges
Our state has a serious challenge stabilizing education funding. New thinking and new strategies need to be implemented to find more accountability to make existing education dollars go farther while at the same time finding new ways to secure a stable source of funds for schools year in and year out. Scott was proud to have supported legislation that would guarantee stable and predictable funding. Scott will work for needed education reform so that our children can successfully compete in the 21st century global marketplace. Also, Scott has and will continue to work hard for Oregon's public colleges and universities. Scott believes that our goal should be nothing less than having the best colleges in the country.
